Introduction to Jewish Philosophy
This is an introduction to Jewish philosophy throughout the ages. The course is meant for anyone, religious or secular, who is interested in learning about the foundations of Jewish philosophy. We'll start with the philosophy of the Hebrew bible, where we'll discuss the inspiration it takes from the time and place in which it was created, and the radical changes and revolutionary ideas it introduced. Then we'll explore Jewish philosophy during the Middle Ages, a time when Jewish philosophy really flourished. Next, we'll explore moral philosophy, theology and the debate with other religions. And finally we'll discuss Maimonides and the rationalists that followed him, all the way to modern time. The final session will be dedicated to free discussion, questions and comments from the participants. At the end of each session participants will get access to a recording of the session as well as a PDF with a summary of material of the session and recommendations for further reading.
